A holistic approach to engaging with children.
Within our environment we value a holistic approach to engaging with children, ensuring that their emotional, physical, cognitive and spiritual beings are nurtured and cared for in a warm and respectful manner. We know that children develop naturally and at their own pace, so we strive to provide them with the space to do so. The teaching team acknowledges that parents and whānau are the first teachers and thus want to work in collaboration with our families to create the best experience for their children.
We value child directed play, curiosity and independent enquiry.
Play is the child’s biggest and best teacher and thus our philosophy is based around the principle that play is the most important part of the day. This idea is underpinned by Te Whariki, which helps us follow and extend children’s learning. We consider the child’s world view and create an environment that stimulates, continues or extends the learning path that they are following.

At Bumblebees, we follow The Treaty of Waitangi.
The Treaty of Waitangi is the founding document of partnership between the Māori and Pākehā cultures that were New Zealand’s first peoples, and we at Bumblebees follow this document. Although New Zealand is a nation founded on two cultures, it has evolved into a multi-cultural nation and thus we respect and enjoy all of the cultures that make up our Centre and our Country. We follow Te Whāriki, which is the curriculum for Early Childhood in New Zealand.
We guide our children to have a vested interest in nature and their environment.
Our aspirations are to be kaitiaki (guardians) of our space and to care for Papatūānuku. By teaching and guiding our children to have a vested interest in nature and their environment we ensure that the next generation will look after the future of our planet. We encourage children nurture and respect all things in their environment; people, animal, resources, nature and our friends.
