Centre Cook

Whitford

We are a Childcare Centre in the heart of Whitford Village in Auckland,a short 10 minute drive from Howick. We have an exciting opportunity for a Centre Cook to join our fabulous community and prepare beautiful and nutritious meals for our children from a set menu!

About this role:

We believe the Kitchen is the heart of our Centre, and that the Cook adds a little bit of love and care into every meal to fill the children’s hungry bellies. We are looking for a special individual who is quick on their feet when needed, but at the same time can slow down and appreciate the special little moments that we celebrate with the children. A love for children is a must!

We have worked with Mission Nutrition to develop a great menu covering all the different food groups and giving children the best nutrition while in our care. It will be your role to follow the set menu, shop for ingredients, work within a budget, cook a variety of foods, cater for allergies and manage all aspects of the kitchen. We are a nut free centre.

The hours can be somewhat flexible (35-40 hours a week), but it will require a minimum of 7 hours per day Monday – Friday. Start date is ideally mid-March, but this is negotiable.

This role will fit you like a glove if you:

  • Are highly organised and able to work autonomously

  • Have a can-do, friendly, caring and professional demeanour

  • Enjoy taking sole charge and working in a busy kitchen

  • Have an interest in baking with the children and being part of our learning programme

  • Love people, big and small, and enjoy working with many different personalities

  • Have experience cooking/baking for a large group of children in an ECE setting (Preferred)

  • Have experience catering for different allergies (for example gluten-free, diary intolerant)

  • Can adhere to the ECE regulations and the strict Health and Safety Guidelines. Food Safety Certificate preferred

  • Are a great team player and happy to help with other odd jobs to keep our Centre running smoothly (e.g. laundry, covering teachers' breaks etc.)

What do we offer?

  • A supportive Centre Manager and Leadership Team (Room Leaders), who want to see you succeed in your role

  • Supportive opportunities for professional growth

  • A fabulous place to work, and a special community to be a part of
